African Musicians Nominated for 2020 BET Awards

Multiple award-winning African musicians have been nominated for the 2020 edition of the BET Awards. Two Nigerians, one Congolese, one South-African and one Zimbabwean made the list.

While Damini Ogulu, famously known as Burna Boy was nominated in the Best International Act, Divine Ikubor also known as Rema, was nominated for the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act, categories. South African singer, Sho Madjozi, and Innos’B from Democratic Republic of Congo were nominated for Best International Act category, while in the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act category, Zimbabwean act, Sha Sha was nominated.

This was announced yesterday by the Black Entertainment Television (BET), organizers of the annual BET Awards on their Twitter handle. The organizers pointed out that the 2020 BET Awards will be the 20th anniversary of the program, and BET’s 40th anniversary of existence. A simulcast will commence live from (8 p.m. ET) across Viacom/CBS networks on June 28, 2020. . It will also air on BET and BET HER. The show will be a virtually organized as a result of the social distancing rules necessitated by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Pulse.ng reports that Burna Boy had previously won the Best International Act category at the 2019 BET Awards. This, however makes it the second time Burna Boy is been nominated in Best International Act.
