Nigeria close to resolving visa restriction issues with The U.S – Buhari
Nigeria might not need to embark on any retaliatory measure as President Muhammadu Buhari last Thursday revealed that the country is making progress in resolving issues that led to the suspension of the issuance of the United States (U.S.) “immigrant visas” to Nigerian passport holders.
The President said this in Abuja while receiving the Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.
In a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, President Buhari expressed delight that two of the six areas of concern raised by the U.S had been fully addressed.
The suspension, which came into effect on February 21, 2020, does not affect other U.S visas, such as those for official, business, tourism and student travel. Initially when the announcement by the US authorities was Nigeria was planning to retaliate by placing similar restrictions on American visitors coming into the country
