Returning final year students in Nigerian are scurrying all over for opportunities to “help themselves” following rumours that the  West African School Certificate examination starting in less than two weeks is flying all over the streets of Ghana.

Across various WhatsApp groups created to enhance learning, discussions on how those with links in Ghana can facilitates the transfer of leaked examination paper have taken over the space. Some are even trying to defraud the gullible ones with offers.

Meanwhile, in Ghana, the examination council has  urged candidates writing the 2020 exams to stay focused and continue preparations.

In a press release WAEC  labelled the circulated papers as fake  and explained that it is the work of people seeking to mislead candidates and bring the name of the examination council into disrepute.

Part of the  statement from WAEC signed by Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe who is the head of public affairs reads: “The Council wishes to allay the fears of all stakeholders especially candidates about the alleged leakage of the Papers. A scrutiny of the images being shared on social media indicates once again, the activities of certain individuals mainly operators of rogue websites and WhatsApp groups aimed at leading candidates astray and discrediting the Council.”

WAEC further charged candidates sitting for this year’s WASSCE to stay alert in order not to be deceived by persons sharing these questions on various platforms.

Meanwhile, WAEC has alerted the security agencies in Ghana about the threats posed by groups circulating fake question papers. The Council assures all its stakeholders that it has put in place all the necessary measures to ensure the smooth conduct of this year’s exam.
