In a dark tunnel, I was born
with my eyes closed. I
bathed in it and ate in it
as I grew up, I was told
by the old that there’s light
at the end .

When are we going to see
the light? They said patience
is all I need, that it was the speed
of light to reach the light.

Night after night,
wherever darkness turned,
we crawled like crippled animals
in the belly of a snake
but it wasn’t us movin’.

What if, all we had to do
was open our eyes?
What if, there’s a torch
in our hands, and all we had
to do was switch it on?
What if, we became the light
that illumed our pathway?

Maybe we’re the end itself,
wrapped in this melanin
there’s a big bang ready
to brighten the universe
with a speed of light.
