Antoa Writing Contest (AWC): Rebuilding Makoko Essay Contest, the second of its kind organized by A New Touch Of Africa in collaboration with Hammed Kayode Alabi, MS Africa and International Development & Mastercard Foundation Scholar in the UK, has finally come to a halt.

The essay contest was organized to inspire African minds to come up with creative and innovative ideas that could open a new chapter for the people of Makoko and its environment with an optimistic support from the Lagos State Government in bringing these brilliant ideas into reality.

For us, it is also a means to show our support for the community rather than tell. It’s about touching lives positively.

With the innovations going on in Africa through the power of tech, we are excited to be awarding the winners of the contest with brand new laptops as well as working with tech firms to see them grow and acquire in-demand tech skills.

We received jaw-dropping essays from entrants in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and other African countries. We shorlisted 10 entrants and we’ve now arrived at our final top 3 winners to conclude AWC2022. It’s been an amazing experience for us and every entrant is considered a winner for being part of this project.

In the words of our collaborator:

Thank you for putting this together. Deeply inspired by those young people who have put such a powerful essays together – Hammed Kayode Alabi, MS Africa and International Development & Mastercard Foundation Scholar
