The governor of Bayelsa state, Douye Diri, has declared that he will appeal the ruling, adding that he has instructed his lawyers to file the necessary papers.
In a press release by his acting chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the governor said he has implicit confidence in the judiciary and that he would triumph in the end. He urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his supporters not to panic and to continue to remain calm and law-abiding.
Also speaking, former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson says Duoye Diri remains governor as the judgement annulling the state governorship election will not take effect until the matter gets to the Supreme Court. The former governor was reacting to the judgement of the election petition tribunal which ordered a bye-election in 90 days.
Dickson urged the people not to be perturbed by the judgement which he described as a temporary setback The former governor said the Peoples Democratic Party will definitely appeal the tribunal verdict.
