Fashion from the African continent is a vibrant and creative expression of cultural diversity. From colorful, printed fabrics and handcrafted accessories to intricate beading and embroidery, African fashion is full of unique, eye-catching designs that are sure to turn heads.

African fashion is based on the concept of “dressing in your culture,” meaning that garments reflect one’s cultural identity and express one’s traditional values. From luxurious traditional formalwear to everyday streetwear, each style serves as a way of expressing who you are and where you come from.

In many African cultures, clothing is seen as an important part of self-expression and individual identity. Women often choose clothing to express their femininity, while men typically wear clothing.

In a recent fashion campaign by SlickCity, aimed at increasing visibility and representation for older age men and women. Launched in July 2020, SlickCity celebrates the unique style, wisdom, and experience of older generations. The campaign focuses on showcasing stylish younger and older generations coming together in unexpected ways to portray that fashion is timeless:

The campaign features models from different backgrounds who have come together to share their individual stories and experiences. It also celebrates older generations by featuring them in shots with stylish people of other ages, exhibiting unity among the generations. From streetwear to formalwear, SlickCity celebrates the various styles of older generations, empowering them to feel confident in their own skin.

The fashion campaign on social media for older age has been incredibly popular. Some of the most-liked images include a group of stunning models from different backgrounds and ages wearing formalwear, a younger woman with a stunning dress and a stylish older man, and an edgy streetwear shot of a younger man and woman embracing an older man in a blazer. 

The response to the campaign has been overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how it is refreshing to see clothing that celebrates older generations. SlickCity has successfully demonstrated how stylish clothing can be timeless.

According to Malik Afegbua from SlickCity, it was surprising that all the people used for the campaign weren’t real. He said plainly last month in a chat on LinkedIn: “they don’t exist”. Mr Afegbua is a film director who also specializes in Virtual Reality (VR).

A bunch of things inspired it but one is speaking for the marginalize and underrepresented – Malik Afegbua, SlickCity.
