Despite claims that the Government of Lagos would be fumigating public secondary schools, in preparation for the immediate partial resumption of terminal class students, visits to most public schools reveal no fumigation has been carried out.

It could be recalled that The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Mrs Aderonke Odeneye, had said in a recent statement  that majority of the public secondary schools in the six educational districts had been reached.

A visit to schools in Abule-Egba, Agege, Alimosho, Igando, Okokomaiko, Badagry, Epe and other distant places revealed that no fumigation took place. Even the guards, food sellers around the premises, neigbours explained that no form of decontamination had taken place in the last two weeks or more.

Our team did not see any sign of construction of borehole or any installation that indicate any plan to fix taps for running water for students and teachers to use.

Odeneye had said that the botched  fumigation exercise was part of the resumption protocol/guidelines for  secondary schools in the state.

However, our team noticed that decontamination activities were conducted in some Model Colleges. Probably the authorities might want to carry out the fumigation while pupils would be in session.
